Have you ever noticed the gentle colors that surround us in nature? The soft pink of a sunset, the warm brown of autumn leaves, the pale blue of a morning sky…
These are the colors that speak to us at Sue’s Fashions. Today, I want to share how nature guides our color choices and why these soft shades are at the heart of our brand.
When we began planning our fall and winter collection, we didn’t start with trend reports or color forecasts. Instead, we took walks. We looked at the changing trees. We collected fallen leaves. We took photos of misty mornings and golden afternoons.
Nature never gets color wrong. Have you noticed that? Even when colors mix in unexpected ways, they always seem to work together perfectly.
Take our new “Autumn Walk” dress. Its main color comes from the exact shade of maple leaves we gathered during a team hike last October. The slight golden undertone makes this brown flattering on almost every skin tone – nature’s clever design, not ours!
Our “Morning Fog” t-shirt was born after a particularly beautiful misty morning in Nashville. That soft, barely-there gray isn’t just pretty – it’s calming to wear, like carrying a bit of peaceful morning with you all day.
We choose these gentle colors for reasons beyond just looks:
First, soft colors are kind. They don’t compete with your natural beauty – they enhance it. They let YOU shine, not just your clothes.
Second, nature-inspired colors work wonderfully together. You can mix our “Moss Green” cardigan with our “Clay Path” pants without thinking twice. They go together because these colors already live happily side by side in nature.
Third, these colors have staying power. While bright trends come and go, the gentle palette of nature never goes out of style. A dress in the color of autumn leaves will look just as beautiful five years from now.
Our color selection process is unusually hands-on. We don’t just point to color swatches. We bring real objects from nature into our studio – stones from a riverbed, pieces of bark, pressed flowers, even jars of sand. Our fabric dyer works carefully to match these treasures, often making many samples until we find the perfect shade.
The result is colors with depth and life. Colors that change slightly as they move in different lights, just like their inspirations in nature. Colors that feel good to live with day after day.
Next time you wear a piece from Sue’s Fashions, take a moment to notice its color. Maybe you’ll recognize a bit of the natural world in it – perhaps that tree outside your window, or the stones along your favorite walking path, or the misty air on a quiet morning.
That’s our hope – that in wearing our clothes, you carry a small reminder of nature’s gentle beauty with you throughout your day.
